I like making things :) A journey through fine art, photography, film, and more has led me to graphic design. For me, it’s a platform to express myself as an artist while continuing to bring others' visions to life as a designer. My design philosophy is to immerse myself in the project, becoming one with the history, culture, and context behind it, something I achieve through meticulous research and exploration.
OTHER FUTURES
THE BRIEF
Other Futures is a film series featuring dystopian, science-fiction, and alternative futures. Every Friday, for ten consecutive weeks, presented by the ArtCenter Film Club, the films would explore the human condition through future societies.
POSTER TO BROCHURE
Being a free event, this project had limitations and challenges put in place to control cost. The poster could only be printed with 2 inks and must have the ability to transform into a brochure so that only one design needed to be printed multiple times. Apart from the physical limitations the design also has to reflect visuals from the films being showcased.
TYPE AND VISUALSThe body copy uses IBM Plex Mono, a monospace typeface chosen to reflect how lives become systematic and restricted in the futures depicted by the movie series. Field Gothic, used for the movie title and date, provides a striking contrast to the body copy with its tall and condensed form. The asymmetric text lockup intentionally breaks away from convention, creating a composition that feels futuristic.
Inspired by The Matrix, the visuals are a collage of the movies melting into each other in a bitmap texture. The colours are inspired by bright neon advertisments seen in movies like Blade Runner. The design still follows the ristriction of 2 inks as only black and cyan ink is used on top of yellow paper for production. The cyan ink on top of the yellow paper create the green hue seen in the final product.
